Catcher Post 1
Ok, so we're getting into the book now, and I want to know what you think about Holden so far. Do you like him? Would you want to be friends with him? Why or Why not? Why do you think he is the way he is? Also, (if you've already read the book, don;'t give this away) what do you think is going to happen to Holden? How is this book going to end?

I don't like him that much, honestly. I have an idea of why he is the way he is, but what gets me is what he chooses to be like. That being said I would be friends with him though since he means well most of the time, and he jut has a lot that bothers him from the people around him and the experiences he has had. I think holden is going to give up and fail miserably and find out too late that he messed his life up himself.
ReplyDeleteUm, besides the bad language, I do like Holden. I have no clue what is going to happen to him in the future of this book. I guess only time will tell, but based off his attitude and personality, it will probably be negative. He is very critical of people, and i think he is that way because of the low confidence that he has for himself.

ReplyDeleteI like Holden so far. Although he may have some faults (cussing a little too much) , he is an average teenager that doesn't know everything that he thinks he does. I would not want to be friends with him because i wouldn't want none of his negativity to rub off on to me. I believe he is the way he is because he's never been shown or knows how to discipline himself. I believe by the end of the book something tragic is going to happen to Holden.
ReplyDeleteI like holden as a character but i don't think i would be friends with because he lies all the time and he over tells the truth. I think because of his past and just the way he thinks , it makes him the way he is. the way the book shows it, it shows that holden wont be happy no matter what happens with his life.
ReplyDeleteHolden seems like a pretty good guy and i think i could be friends with him but there are just some things about him that bother me. He conforms to society in ways that he might not think of but criticizes others for being phony. I'm not sure what will happen to holden but i think he'll either conform and find a school or chase after Jane and catch up with her.
ReplyDeleteI think Holden is entertaining. Im not sure if i'd want to be friends with him because he is untrustworthy. I think he is the way he is because he has had a hard life and because he lost his little brother. I think Holden will change his ways and the book will end happily.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would want to be friends with Holden. He does not seem very trust worthy or kind to his peers. I think he is the way he is because he just wants to fit in and be liked so uses bad language and rebels against society to make himself seem cool. I think in the end Holden will become more mature and change his ways.
ReplyDeletei dont really like holden. he is always lying to everyone, and he enjoys lying. lying is one of the few things that i cannot stand, so i dont see how i could be friends with him. i think he enjoys lying so much bc he loves to see how react to him when he tells them a lie. i think another reason he lies is bc he doesnt want ppl to really know anything about him.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like Holden mostly because of the way he talks about people and how they act. I wouldn't necessarily be friends with him mostly because I don't get along with people who think badly of other people. He may be what he is like might be because of perhaps his parents were not truthful to him which could be why he thinks a lot of people are phony. I think something is going to happens to change his outlook on life possible or his out look on other people. That Holden possibly get with the girl he likes.
ReplyDeleteI believe that in a way Holden is kind of phony himself. He says that he is illiterate but he is currently reading some random book, he says he is not smart, but then his roommate asks him to do an assignment for him. I don't think that I would want to be friends with Holden strickly because he isn't true to himself, all he cares about is fitting in. I think he is only that way because that is the way Salinger intended him to be, because he wanted to prove a point. I would hope that in the end Holden will change his ways and be honest with who he is.
ReplyDeleteI like holden. he is outspoken and is honest about what he thinks and he is just an average teenager that does and says what he thinks. i would be friends with him just because he seems laid back and he would be good company. but i think he is the way he is because of his family. with his little brothers death and his other brother living in hollywood and his dad most likely works all the time i think he is just on his own and maybe he wants attention. but i think holden is going to get together with jane and he is going to realize that he needs to grow up and i think he will be better off and complete school.
ReplyDeleteI do like Holden but I probably would not want to be friends with him because he is very cynical and hypocritical. I think he is the way he is because of his childhood, like he sort of had a bad family life which is sort of very explainable because if you've been mistreated or something along those lines, its going to leave a lasting impression on you and how you act. I think the book will end with Holden being miserable.
ReplyDeleteHolden is not a person I could see myself as being friends with. He is not a reliable person. I wouldn't want to tell him anything because he would possibly tell others what i told him. He acts a bit phony and fake, which is what he is accusing others of being. That isn't a very good thing to do.
ReplyDeleteHolden is very untrustworthy which makes me not sure if I would want to be friends with him. but then again who can we trust? Even best friends lie. I think he likes messing with peoples heads which would keep me confused a lot but also I think he is the friend who would tell you exactly what was wrong with you or if he didn't like something about you. I don't think he would tell you that you looked cute maybe when you really looked like crap. unless he said it sarcastically. I think he is a very sarcastic person and I love that. Part of me thinks that whatever happens in the book will be negative but then again I think it will also be positive because I think he will realize that he is screwing up his life and maybe change it around.
ReplyDeleteHolden may lie and cuss alot, but i kind of like him. I think he has never really had a good friend or anything to care about him and connect with which is alot of his problem. I think this kid is going to end up hurt, whether its physically or mentally, and realize how much potential he had when its too late
